Project Objectives
Given the extent of neglect, to achieve the overall aims of the project specific objectives have been established which guide the programme of work being carried out:
- To clear the graveyard of brambles, vegetation, needles, fly-tipped material, etc., to facilitate physical access
- To expose, restore and repair gravestones and monuments
- To restore a portion of the site to unimproved grassland, a relatively species-rich habitat
- To plant the remainder of the site, including graves, with native shrubs, decorative trees and bulbs.
- To provide bird boxes and feeders
- To create a peaceful nature area with seating
- To establish contact with the local community and involve them with events associated with the project
- To research associated local history and create a ‘history trail’
- To encourage ‘educational’ visits to the site, including talks, guided walks and school activities
- To establish a workable long-term maintenance programme
